Freeze-Dried Carboxymethyl Chitosan/Starch Foam for Use as a Haemostatic Wound Dressing

Prolonged bleeding is a general complication that occurs after tooth extraction or oral surgery. Thus, patients must apply pressure and use absorbable wound dressings to stop prevent blood loss. This method stops causes clotting of blood. However, some people have disorders cannot with applied Therefore, haemostatic foam dressing an interesting material can be used without hindering in the site. In this study, was prepared using blend starch carboxymethyl chitosan glyoxal as crosslinking agent. The formed by freeze-drying. Carboxymethyl chitosan/starch absorbed water rapidly held it, analysed assay maximum swelling. (CM/starch foam) made 1:4 ratio 1% also very well exhibited suitable properties. Cytotoxic studies human dermal fibroblast cells, determined MTT assay, confirmed CM/starch non-toxic had good mechanical properties wet environment.
